Miss New York Nia Franklin has been named the 2019 Miss America in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Franklin, 24, wowed judges when she performed an opera song during the talent portion of the competition. A native of Brooklyn, New York, Franklin said that she wanted to promote diversity, especially within the arts.
"I just want to thank God for this, it took a lot of perseverance to get here," she said shortly after winning, also thanking her family and especially her father, who is a survivor of cancer.

Dallas officer Amber Guyger has been arrested and charged with manslaughter in the death of Botham Jean.

Dallas officer Amber Guyger who fatally shot 26-year-old Botham Jean after mistaking his apartment for her own has been arrested and charged with manslaughter, according to the Texas Rangers.
She was booked into the Kaufman County Jail.
Late Thursday evening, the off-duty Dallas officer, who was still in uniform, shot and killed Jean in his apartment after she apparently mistook his unit as her own.

Princess Eugenie’s wedding has sparked anger after it was revealed it will be even bigger than Prince Harry’s. She and fiancee Jack Brooksbank have invited more guests to St George’s Chapel in Windsor than the church will actually hold.
And it was also revealed that she has even brought in the expensive party planner David Beckham uses to help organize their wedding events which will span the whole weekend. They have asked 850 guests to their wedding - meaning staff will need to bring in extra chairs into the chapel, which seats just 800.

At least 17 people have died in South Sudan when a small aircraft carrying passengers from Juba International Airport to the city of Yirol crashed into a lake.

The 19-seater commercial Baby Airplane had been traveling from the capital, Juba, the minister of information for the town of Yirol, Taban Abel Aguek, told The Associated Press.
'We have not yet established full details of the airline but what we know it is a 19-seater plane coming from Juba to Yirol this morning.
When it arrived the weather was so foggy and when it tried to land it crashed into Lake Yirol adjacent to Yirol town. It's so sad. Many people on board are feared dead. We are still establishing details,” he said.

She wrapped up the event on Friday, the 7th September with a ground-breaking speech that had individuals chatting social media. Inbound highlights four days of motivating talks from different speakers.


For the occasion, Chimamanda remained consistent with her plans of representing Nigerian designers by wearing a chic top from Style Temple and a skirt from Wuman brand.

Deaf, disabled Nigerian immigrant faces deportation after 34 years in the US

Francis Anwana, 48, an immigrant from Nigeria, stands next to a Christmas tree, in Michigan. He's lived in the U.S. since he was 14, but now faces deportation.

A disabled Nigerian man Francis Anwana is set to be deported after 34 years in the United States.
Born and raised in Nigeria, Anwana was just 14 years old when he came to the United States on a student visa.
He was deaf, couldn't talk, and had cognitive disabilities, enrolling at the Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint. 
Now 48, Anwana lives in Detroit at an adult foster care facility, helping mow the lawns and mop the floors at a nearby church on Detroit's west side.
After he graduated and his student visa expired, several people tried to help Anwana gain citizenship. But because he no longer had a valid visa, he was ineligible to gain legal status.
