Chinese business magnate and investor Jack Ma is scheduled to visit Rwanda on 31 October, to meet with local investors to explore opportunities available in various sectors, an authoritative source revealed Tuesday in Kigali. Among the key sectors of investment, Ma is set to focus is tourism, electronic payment, and education between Rwanda and China, a statement issued by the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) announced.
Founder and chairman of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, Jack Ma will be visiting Rwanda this month on a trip about which the organizers have been tight-lipped.
This would be the second visit by Ma to Rwanda, after his previous trip in the East African nation to attend YouthConnekt Africa summit in July 2017.
The initiative was launched in 2012 by the Government of Rwanda in collaboration with One UN Rwanda with the objective to bring together different youths to showcase the potential of Africa’s youth and the available opportunities.
As part of this initiative, the Chinese billionaire has announced four groundbreaking projects including inviting 200 young African entrepreneurs to work at Alibaba headquarters, with the aim of gaining experience in fields such as e-commerce, artificial intelligence, and the Internet.
